Foundation

The 5 wineries along with the winemakers in the area, created in 2007, the Association of Winegrowers and Winemakers of the Sierra de Salamanca (Asociación de Viticultores y Elaboradores de Vino de la Sierra de Salamanca)  to protect the wine region while promoting the wines and obtaining the Denomination of Origin for the area.

The Association promoted a supporting study that demonstrated the potential of the area to become a Denomination of Origin. It also drafted a regulation setting that fixed the basis for grape production and high quality wine production.

In June 2010, the Order AYG/806/2010 was published recognizing the Protected Designation of Origin Quality Wine from the Sierra of Salamanca and provides its management to the Association of Winegrowers and Winemakers of the Sierra de Salamanca.
